HEALING SALVE - Wound Healing & Protection

Our Healing Salve was formulated to tackle some of the most challenging skin and wound issues:  belly dermatitis from insects, cuts, scrapes, saddle sores, cracked and damaged skin and lacerations.  The salve is easy to apply, and with natural butters, waxes and plant oils – it stays on, making wound care easy and fast without compromising on effectiveness. 

This formula was originally developed to treat our Founders’ Quarter Horse, Sucha Fella, who had severe allergic skin irritation from insects on his belly.  Nothing else seemed to work and when the only alternative seemed to be to use more petroleum-based products, we decided to formulate our own Healing Salve.  Of course, the first test was on Fella – then we shared it with our barn mates.  It has become one of the favorites – the earthy, floral scent, the buttery texture and the healing power of the essential oils has made this a staple in all of our medicine cabinets.

Our Healing Salve is also perfect for the equestrian - rough skin, cracked hands and is perfect to rub into cuticles after applying to your horse.  Safe, natural and a beautiful scent means you no longer have to find a place to wash your hands after applying product on your horse!

We made a conscious decision when formulating our Healing Salve to create a  thick, occlusive formulation – we knew to get the best results we would need to use natural and organic butters along with select plant oils, and then combine that with some powerhouse essential oils, actives & extracts.  Sea Buckthorn Fruit Extract is known for its wound healing properties, and the essential oils of Frankincense Frereana, Patchouli and Myrrh have skin repair and healing properties.  We selected the Geranium essential oil for its insect repelling properties.  See the full description of the essential oils on Our Ingredients page. 

Having an anhydrous (no water) formulation does pose a few challenges, but we knew it was important to go the traditional, old-school route for our Healing Salve.  It is important to note:  this product will melt in the sun or in extreme hot weather – but you can always place it in a cool spot to get it to firm up again.  It's an all-natural, safe, and effective formula that promotes faster healing and shields your horse from insects on those trouble spots.
