Innovative Ingredients

We have been thoughtful and thorough in our research for the ingredients that go into our products.  Natural ingredients were important to us in the selection process - AND so was looking at new, innovative NATURALLY DERIVED ingredients.  We carefully considered things like:  COSMOS and ECOCERT certifications, USDA BioPreferred ingredients and whether the ingredients were sustainable, including RSPO (Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil) mass balance (a certification system used in the palm oil industry to track the flow of sustainably sourced palm oil through the supply chain).  Transparency lies at the core of our brand - you will see detailed information on all our ingredients on our website.  Some of the INCI names (International Nomenclature for Cosmetic Ingredients) sound like they are harmful - quite the opposite is true.  Our goal is to provide detailed information on the ingredients that are in our products - just like what is required for cosmetic/haircare products for people.  We want you to know what you are putting on your equine partner, you deserve to know what is in the products that you come into contact with during the grooming process.

Acacia Senegal Gum (and) Xanthan Gum

These gums are obtained using an innovative and sustainable manufacturing process for which the acacia gum coats the xanthan gum. As with most natural gums, these two combined offer a natural thickening-stabilizing-texturizing polymer for use in cosmetic and hair products.  COSMOS and ECOCert approved natural ingredients.

Sorbitan Oleate Decylglucoside Crosspolymer

Non-ionic surfactant (cleanser) that is 100% naturally derived.  This product is EO-free, 1,4-Dioxane free, and PEG-free, is not a Sulfate and does not contain anything from our "NO" List.  We chose this ingredient as a surfactant for some of our products, as it is able to solubilize a broad range of lipophilic (oils/esters) substances and is cold processable*.

This ingredient has excellent performance and critical for us in our selection process was the ability for this ingredient to be stable over a broad pH range, since equine hair/skin is a PH7 (Neutral).

*As an eco-conscious brand, we are mindful of looking at ingredients that can be cold processable.  Cold processing generally requires less energy and reduces the carbon footprint compared to traditional hot processing methods. It can contribute to a more sustainable and eco-friendly manufacturing process.

COSMOS & ECOCERT Certification - What are they? Why are they important?

COSMOS and ECOCERT certifications are both internationally recognized standards in the realm of organic and natural cosmetics and personal care products. These certifications ensure that products meet strict criteria related to their organic and ecological integrity, sustainability, and transparency throughout the production process. Let's delve into each certification:

  1. COSMOS Certification: COSMOS (Cosmetic Organic Standard) is a harmonized, internationally accepted certification developed by five major European organizations involved in the organic and natural cosmetics industry. The founding organizations include BDIH (Germany), Cosmebio (France), Ecocert Greenlife (France), ICEA (Italy), and Soil Association (UK). The COSMOS standard sets guidelines for organic and natural cosmetic products, ensuring that they are produced responsibly and meet high standards of sustainability.

Key features of COSMOS certification:

  • Organic Ingredients: The COSMOS standard defines criteria for the use of organic ingredients in cosmetic products, emphasizing the use of natural and organic materials.
  • Ecological Impact: Products bearing the COSMOS label must adhere to environmentally friendly production practices, including responsible sourcing and manufacturing processes that minimize environmental impact.
  • Responsible Packaging: The certification encourages the use of eco-friendly and recyclable packaging materials.
  • Transparency: Manufacturers must provide comprehensive information about the ingredients used and their sourcing.
  1. ECOCERT Certification: ECOCERT is an independent certification body based in France that specializes in evaluating and certifying organic and natural products, including cosmetics, food, and textiles. The ECOCERT standard was established in 1991 and is one of the most widely recognized certifications for organic and environmentally friendly products worldwide.

Key features of ECOCERT certification:

  • Organic and Natural Ingredients: ECOCERT verifies that products contain a minimum percentage of organic and natural ingredients, promoting the use of plant-based and environmentally sustainable resources.
  • Chemical Restrictions: The certification limits the use of certain synthetic chemicals, parabens, and GMOs, ensuring products are safer and more environmentally friendly.
  • Environmental Impact: ECOCERT evaluates the entire production chain to ensure environmentally responsible practices, such as reduced water and energy consumption.
  • Social Responsibility: The certification also considers fair labor practices and social responsibility throughout the production process.

Both COSMOS and ECOCERT certifications provide consumers with confidence that the products they purchase meet stringent organic and ecological standards, promoting sustainable and eco-conscious choices in the cosmetics and personal care industry.

USDA BioPreferred Program

The USDA Biopreferred program is a voluntary initiative established by the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) to promote and advance the use of biobased products in various industries. The program aims to support the development and adoption of products made from renewable agricultural resources, reducing reliance on fossil fuels and promoting sustainability.

Key aspects of the USDA Biopreferred program and certification include:

Biobased Products: The program focuses on products derived from renewable biological resources, such as plants, forestry materials, agricultural crops, and other natural sources. These biobased products can replace or supplement conventional petroleum-based materials commonly used in various industries.

Biobased Content: To qualify for certification, products must undergo testing to determine their biobased content. This percentage represents the portion of the product derived from renewable resources and serves as a measure of the product's environmental impact and sustainability.

USDA Certified Biobased Product Label: Products that meet the certification requirements are granted permission to use the USDA Certified Biobased Product label. This label serves as a clear identifier for consumers, businesses, and government agencies seeking products with verified biobased content.

Environmental Benefits: By promoting the use of biobased products, the program aims to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, decrease reliance on fossil fuels, and contribute to a more sustainable and circular economy. Biobased products often have a lower carbon footprint compared to their petroleum-based counterparts, making them more environmentally friendly.

Market Incentives: The Biopreferred program encourages manufacturers to develop innovative biobased products by creating market incentives. Government agencies and institutions may prioritize the purchase of biobased products, and businesses can differentiate themselves by offering environmentally responsible choices to consumers.

The USDA Biopreferred program plays a vital role in advancing the adoption of biobased products, supporting agricultural communities, and fostering sustainable practices across various industries. Through the certification process and the use of the USDA Certified Biobased Product label, consumers can make more informed choices, aligning their purchasing decisions with environmental stewardship.
