🌿Ingredients Matter More in Winter

In winter, when we bathe less, coat health becomes everything.
What you apply to your horse’s coat, mane, and tail stays there longer — so choosing the right products is more important than ever.

Choosing silicone-free, sulfate-free, non-toxic grooming products helps:

  • Reduce buildup on the hair and skin
  • Keep coats soft and conditioned without coating or clogging
  • Repel dirt more effectively
  • Make daily grooming easier — even in cold weather

Healthy shine isn’t about fake gloss. It’s about a conditioned, balanced coat that functions better.

Step 1: Baseline the Coat, Mane & Tail

Before winter truly sets in, it’s ideal to start with a baseline bath.

Use a sulfate-free shampoo, like Clarify Shampoo, to thoroughly clean the coat, mane, and tail without stripping natural oils.
This helps:

  • Remove residue and buildup from previous products
  • Soften the hair
  • Improve the coat’s ability to repel dirt throughout winter

Clarify is also excellent for brightening whites and socks before colder weather limits full baths.

Step 2: Daily & Weekly Coat Care (Non-Clipped Horses)

When bathing isn’t frequent, consistent light conditioning is key.

  • Curry first to lift dirt and debris from the coat
  • Apply The Daily Spray, our non-silicone coat spray to hydrate and condition the coat and skin
  • Brush with a soft bristle brush

Healthy, conditioned hair releases dirt more easily, making winter grooming faster and gentler. Aim to do this a few times per week.

Step 3: Mane & Tail Care (All Horses)

Winter can be especially drying on manes and tails.

  • Apply regularly to prevent breakage and dryness 
  • Spray, Twist tail end, brush from the bottom up and slowly release hair as you go. This helps prevent pulling out the hair and breakage.

Hot Cloth Treatments
Hot cloth treatments are excellent for both clipped and unclipped horses:

  • Use HOT water with Glisten, our non-silicone spray
  • Gently brush the coat to clean, then spray Glisten, rub into coat with a hot, wet (wring out first) towel
  • Helps soften hair, maintain skin health, and reduce dirt buildup without full bathing

Step 4: Blanket Rub & Dry Skin Support

  • Apply GLISTEN spray to blanket rub areas to add slip and reduce friction
  • Always ensure proper blanket fit and clean blankets before regular use

For dry winter skin:

  • Use an Intensive Conditionerat the dock and base of the mane
  • Helps maintain moisture and prevent flaking or irritation

Step 5: Waterless Cleaning When Baths Aren’t an Option

A sulfate-free waterless shampoo is essential for winter care.  Use our CLEANSED for to clean every color horse in winter.

Use it to remove:

  • Dirt and dust
  • Green spots and manure stains
  • Sweat after rides (especially girth areas)
  • Urine or shavings if your horse lays down

How to use:

  1. Curry off excess dirt
  2. Spray waterless shampoo
  3. Wipe with a damp towel
  4. Allow to dry, then brush

If your horse is sweaty, towel off excess moisture and use a fleece cooler to help them dry comfortably.
